Allergic rhinitis (AR) is known as a non-infectious inflammatory disease of the nasal mucosa, and it has clinical symptoms of sneezing, rhinorrhea, nasal congestion and itching. Its development is mediated by IgE mainly after the body has contact with an allergen, and it involves many types of cell factors and inflammatory factors
The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of in office posterior nasal nerve cauterization in treatment patients with persistent allergic rhinitis and the main objective was to evaluate the efficacy of in office posterior nasal nerve electrocauterization in treatment of patients with persistent allergic rhinitis in ”SCU” hospitals. A prospective interventional study was conducted outpatient clinic of Suez Canal university hospitals in the period from August 2022 to August 2023. Adult patients with moderate to severe persistent allergic rhinitis not responding to medical treatment were recruited. Patients were followed-up and assessed by a reflective Total Nasal Symptoms Score (rTNSS) at 1 week & 1 month,3months, 6months after the procedure, for reassessment of nasal symptoms and comparison with pre procedure symptoms, endoscopic nasal exam was done each time, assessment for presence of any complications and rQOL 6 months post procedure.
In the present study, fifty-five patients complained from moderate to severe allergicrhinitis with mean age 29.5± 7.6 years and median of 29 years ranged from 19 to 52 years. The males were representing 63.6% and 36.4% females.
