Abstract

BC represents one of the most critical health issues for females. The most common histologic type of invasive breast carcinoma is IDC/NST, accounting for ∼70%-75% of invasive breast carcinoma cases globally (Surabhi et al., 2023).
In Egypt, it is the most common cause of cancer mortality in women. Egypt has a value of 57/100 on the index of effective coverage in breast cancer treatment (Rostom et al., 2022).
MFAP5 is a protein of extracellular microfibrils that was found to be enriched in CAFs secretomes. Clinical data revealed an association between MFAP5 expression and patient survival (Banerjee et al., 2023).
In BC, particularly IDC/NST, few researches have been concerned with discussing MFAP5 expression in epithelial cells of BC. Most researches in this field were focusing on CAFs derived MFAP5. Correspondingly, our study was concerned about demonstrating its expression in four compartments of the tumor; epithelial, stromal, in situ component, and metastatic deposits in corresponding synchronous axillarylymph nodes.
Adopting IHC staining technique of MFAP5, we were able to identify a significant cytoplasmic expression in a hundred and six samples of IDC/NST and in their corresponding synchronous axillary lymph nodes.
Succinctly, this study reported statistically significant expression of MFAP5 in epithelial element of primary breast lesion in concordance with high grades of tumor especially with high scores of nuclear pleomorphism, with higher grades of DCIS component, with higher percentages of TILs,
