Abstract Aluminum phosphide (ALP) is a widely known solid fumigant. Aluminum phosphide tablet is known among the public in Egypt as a ’grain tablet’ because it is used in grain protection. Unfortunately, acute ALP poisoning has become a leading toxicological cause of mortality, especially in developing countries. In Egypt, ALP is the most common mean of suicide due to easy availability, uncontrolled sales, and increasing rates of social and financial problems that youth face. Despite continuous scientific efforts, no effective antidote for acute ALP poisoning has been developed till now. Death rates caused by ALP poisoning have been demonstrated to be as high as 70–100%. Hence, evaluating new treatment modalities is necessary in order to decrease the of mortality and/or morbidity rates. |
