Abstract The current study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of a spiral approach-based learning model in developing the EFL writing skills and achievement motivation among preparatory schoolers. The qusai experimental pre-posttest design was adopted. Two classes from Al-Oboor Preparatory School for Girls in Ismailia, Egypt were selected purposefully as an experimental group (N=42) and a control group (N=42). To achieve the purpose of the study, a writing skills test, and an achievement motivation scale were designed and validated to be a pre and post-test for the two groups. Furthermore, a spiral approach-based learning model was developed and used for teaching EFL writing skills to the experimental group during the first term of the academic year (2022-2023). The statistical package for the social science (SPSS) was used in order to analyze the data collected from pre & post-administrations of the writing skills test and the achievement motivation scale. Results of the study revealed that the spiral approach-based learning model had a significantly positive effect on the writing skills and motivation of the experimental group. These results adduce the importance of integrating the spiral approach-based learning model into teaching EFL writing to first-year preparatory school pupils.
