Abstract Mitral valve diseases are among the most prevalent valvular heart diseases and necessitate surgical procedures for the repair or replacement of the mitral valve. Good exposure is strictly required for mitral valve surgery, when the original valve is calcified or when a previous implanted synthetic valve prosthesis is removed. So this study was conducted to to compare incidence of arrhythmias post-operative between bi-atrial trans-septal approach and left atrial approach in Mitral valve surgery, to improve outcome and quality of life to reduce morbidity and mortality. Our prospective study included 100 patients undergoing mitral valve surgery; 50 of them have bilateral trans-septal approach and 50 with left artiriotomy approach. The mean age of transseptal group is (41.26 ± 13.456 years), of left atriotomy group (43.18 ± 10.179 years), without statistically significant difference between the two group (p=0.423). The majority of bilateral transseptal group 32 (64.0%) were females and 18 (36.0%) only were males. Also, in the left atriotomy group 27 (54.0%) were females and 23 (46.0%) were males, without statistically significant difference between the two group (p=0.309). The medical and surgical history of the studied groups; it was found that 19 (38.0%)of bilateral transseptal group and 12 (24.0%) of the left atriotomy group were diabetics, without statistically significant difference between the two group (p=0.130). (30%) of patients of bilateral transseptal group and 18 (36.0%) of the 97 Summary left atriotomy group had COPD, without statistically significant difference betweenthe two group (p=0.873). |
