Abstract Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) affects over 25% of the global population. The number of patients with NAFLD has increased in parallel with the global increase in the prevalence of obesity and the metabolic syndrome. The gold standard for diagnosing NAFLD is liver biopsy. However, this procedure is invasive and limited by sample size and hence easily leads to misdiagnosis. |
