Abstract The present study was undertaken to evaluate the hepatotoxic effect of cypermethrin on some biochemical parameters, oxidative stress biomarkers histopathological changes in liver of adult male rats, also estimation of toxic impacts of cypermethrin on male reproductive performance, as well as possible inhibition of adverse effects by using Panax ginseng as natural antioxidant agent. For this purpose 200 (120 males and 80 females), 20 male rats were used for determination of acute oral LD50 and the rest of rats (180) were used (100) were used for hepatotoxicity and fertility studies and divided into four groups equally, group(1): served as –ve control, group (2) as +ve control were given Panax mixed with diet at dose (1%of feed) , group (3): dosed cypermethrin (9.4mg/kg.bwt) orally, group(4): were given cypermthrin with Panax at the same dose meanwhile (80) female rats were used for studying reproductive toxicity, all treatments of the experiment continued for 3 months for hepatotoxicity study and 2 months for male fertility study. The results of present study revealed that cypermethrin exposure induced a significant increase AST, ALT, ALP, bilirubin, glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL, as compared to –ve and +ve controls menaehile, with significantly decreased of values of total protein, albumin, globulin, A/G ratio and HDL along the period of experiment. Regarding to oxidative stress biomarkers indicated elevation in MDA levels, however, reduced in SOD, GSH and CAT levels in hepatic tissues, corresponding to controls from the 2nd month of experiment. The results of study indicated that Panax ginseng co-treatment significantly suppresses the toxic effect of cypermethrin on liver function, glucose, serum protein and lipid profile.as well as the oxidative stress biomarkers , Panax decreased the level of MDA, in contrast increased the levels of SOD, GSH and CAT. These results confirmed by histopathological findings of liver, conversely, histopathological findings displayed that concomitant oral administration of Panax with cypermethrin provoked significantly less damage and degeneration of liver. In referring to male fertility and reproductive toxicity study the present results illuminated that oral administration of cypermethrin convince hazardous effect on male reproduction as indicated by significant decrease in weights of genital organs, the sperm cell concentration, percentage of live and motile sperms, testosterone, LH, FSH, marked declined in fertility index, SOD, GSH and CAT levels in testicular tissues while increased abnormalities and MDA levels, meanwhile, Panax with cypermethrin showed lesser effect and improve all parameters of male fertility and reproductivity , all these results confirmed by histopathological findings in male genital organs. |
