Abstract Liver cancer is the fifth most prevalent cancer in the world and the third lethal cancer overall. It was responsible for 7.69% of the universal cancer-linked deaths in 2020. In Egypt, liver cancer is the fourth most prevalent cancer; it is the second among males and sixth among females. In 2020, estimated cancer-linked deaths in Egypt were around 66% of the entire cancer-infected Egyptians. HCC develops from hepatocytes (primary liver parenchymal cells). More than 90% of primary liver cancer cases worldwide are of HCC type. HCC risk markedly increases with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. Cases of HCV or/and Hepatitis B virus (HBV) can progress to HCC. |
