Abstract In the present study, inactivation of ToMV (tomato mosaic virus) by various culture filtrates, water, petroleum ether, chloroform and methanol extracts of 17 algae were attempted. Datura metel plant, a susceptible local lesion host to tomato mosaic virus was used in different experiments. The number of local lesions produced on the leaves of whole plants was taken as an assay for virus infectivity. The algae used in this study are : Valonia ventricosa, Ulva fasciata, Enteromorpha intestinalis, Cladophora lehamanniana, Scenedesmus obliquus. |
