Abstract The present study has been carried out upon twenty—five edentulous patients in Prothodontics Department, Faculty of Dentistry, El—Mansoura University. The purpose of this study was to compare the intraoral retention between two upper complete heat cured acrylic denture bases cured by two different curing cycles. The two curing cycles used were i — Short, high temperature curing cycle Heating the material in water bath at 65°C for 1.5 hours and then at 100°C for -&ne hour. ii— Long, low temperature curing cycle Heating the material in water bath at 74°C for 9 hours. The retention of each upper denture base was measured using the retention measuring system consisting of especi ally constructed retention testing rig, two strain gauges, strain indicator unit and X-Y chart recorder unit. The results of this study revealed that i — There was no statistically significant difference between the two curing cycles on retention of the denture base (the calculated-t Cc) was 1.54 while the tabulated-t Ct) was 2.00 at $ 0.05. |
