Abstract In an attempt to point –out and devise solution procedures for the problem facing the maritime transportation sector in Egypt. The present study has resulted in several directives that minimize the total coast of the Egyptian sea – borne foreign trade transportation . They, collectively , constitute an optimal medium – range plan (5-7 years )within a total investment size arbitrarily set to L.E. 40 million (24 of which are in foreign exchange ). The plan ensures operating the national shipyards at their rated capacity and running of the fleet units at approximately 65% utilization rate . The main features of these directives are : It is more economical to concentrate the operation of the current fleet units on fewer navigation lines , namely the Mediterranean , the Adriatic , the far-fast , and the west African line. |
