Abstract The present study deals with the helminth parasites which infest the freshwater fishes in the Nile river and its tributaries Common in Dakahlyia governorate in Egypt. The host fishes examined were Bagrus bayad; B. docmac; Synodontis schall; Synodontis serratus; Mormyrus caschive; Barbus bynni; Lates niloticus and labeo niloticus. The collected and described parasites were Acanthostomum absconditum, Haplorchoides cahirinus, Phyllodistomum aegyptiacus n.sp. Diplostomum metacercaria, Neodiplostomum metacercaria, Posthodiplostomum metacercaria, Spinitectus moraveci and Capillaria yamagutii. A general survey for these parasites was studied monthly. Also, the present study dealt with the effect of two plant extracts and two antihelminthic drugs on the host fish Bagrus bayad and two of its parasites; Acanthostomum absconditum (Digenea) and Spinitectus moraveci (Nematoda). |
