Abstract The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate the effect of adding the zirconia powder in different ratios (1%, 2% and 3% by weight ) to the powder of both Zincophosphatic (zincphosphate) and GC Fuji Plus (resinmodified glass ionomer) luting cements. The evaluation include biocompatibility, water solubility, film thickness, fluoride release, setting time, diameteral tensile strength, shear bond strength, acidity and microstructure. Based on the results of this investigation, the following conclusions can be made: 1. In general, biocompatibility of both zinc phosphate and resinmodified glass ionomer luting cements was improved by adding zirconia to their powders. This improvement was greatly emphasized by addition zirconia powder in 3%. 2. There was no any significant changes in water solubility, film thickness and setting times of both zinc phosphate and resinmodified glass ionomer luting cements after adding zirconia powder in the three concentrations (1%, 2%, 3%). 3. Adding zirconia powder in the three concentrations (1%, 2%, 3%) to the powder of resinmodified glass ionomer luting cement had no significant effect on its fluoride release. 4. There was an improvement in the diameteral tensile of both ZincoPhoshatic and resinmodified glass ionomer luting cements after adding zirconia to their powders, particularly with 3% zirconia addition. 5. Shear bond strengths of resinmodified glass ionomer luting cement was improved after adding zirconia to its powder, particularly with 3% zirconia addition. |
