Abstract This study was performed to study the effect of preoperative administration of 25 mg captopril , orally , on blood gas profile during cooling Period in open heart surgery for valvular repair or replacement. patients were premedicated with 1 ug / kg fentanyl and 0.1 mg / kg diazepam intravenously before induction of anaesthesia. Cannulation of internal jugular vein and radial artery were perfomed preoperatively under local anaesthesia, and complete aspetic technique for monitoring of C. V.P and arterial blood pressure. Fentanyl was the inducing agent in a dose of 40 -50 ug / kg . Tracheal intubation was facilitaled with 0.1 mg /kg vecuronium, using suitable cuffed disposable tube. Anaesthesia was maintained with oxygen 100 % and incremental doses 50-100 ug. Fentanyl and one fifth of the initial doses of vecuronium when needed to maintain intra-operative relaxation. Patients were classified into two groups, 7 patients each, the first oup was premedicated with captopril, and second group with no captopril Blood samples were withdrawn from arterial and venous sides of oxygenator for blood gas analysis including oxygen saturation . |
