Abstract This study was conducted to illucidate the possible effects of some of the variable factors that could infl-uence the toxicity of the commonly used inhalational ana-esthetic agentst diethyl ether and halothane when repea-tedly administered. Rats ef the Albino type were used and were of el found that repeated exposure of animals to either ether or halothane produced hepatic lesion in the form of vacu-ation-of the he-patocytes.Ether was found to produce more pathological lesion then halothane.Ether induced hepatic lesion was found to be time-concentration depend- ent- Repeated administration of diethyl ether-halothane azeotropic mixture produced slight hepatic changes indi-ag,~tjag hepatic congestion and irritation. Repeated exposure of rats, kept on low protein diet in the form of bread and water, to 4’1’’o’ ether produced more extensive vacular lesions than those produced by 1% hal-thane. Phenobarbitone administration produced morphological changes indicating increased normal mitotic activity. These changes were more apparent with halothane than with |
