Abstract The subject of bilharzial hepatic fibrosis has been approached with particular stress on changes of secondary sex parameters and seminogram, as a mirror of testicular function. The studied cases included three groups representing three stages of the disease. The first group comprises ten I cases with simple intestinal bilharziasis; the second group consists of fifteen cases with bilharzial hepatic fibrosis without ascites; and the third group comprised ten cases with bilharzial hepatic fibrosis and ascites. The patients were collected from the wards and clinics of Mansoura University Hospital Normal basal values of serum T, E-, FSH, and LH were obtained from an age and sex matched control group comprising ten healthy fertile medical staff. All men were married and fathered children, their age ranged between 20 to 50 years and only those with pure bil¬harziasis and normal genital findings were included in the study. The interview focused on sexual history and any change in secondary sexual characteristics. A particular note was made of any drug treatment. |
