Abstract

Our study is conducted on 361 patients of bleeding oesophageal varices who were admitted to emergency unit of hematemesis and melena. We classify the patients into mild cases and sever cases, mild cases receive either EIS or EVL., while sever cases receive either: • EIS + sandostatin. • EVL + sandostatin • EIS + glypressin • EVL + glypressin In mild cases the results of EIS was nearly equal to EVL as regards rebleeding. As rebleeding was 9.3% in EIS !:,TfOUp and 9.50/0 in EVL with no statistically significant difference. While mortality was 8.9% in EIS and 4.8% in EVI with no statistically significant difference also. The incidence of rebleeding in sever cases was high while mortality rate was not so high as expected and this can be attributed to addition of sandostatin or glypressin to EYI or EIS in such groups.
