Abstract This study was done on fifteen albino Newzealand rabbits with 10Ls implanted in the posterior chamber. In ten eyes the 10Ls were fixed to the sclera. the other ten eyes with 10Ls fixed to the iris. ten eyes were served as control where intracapsular lens extraction has been done. The most common histopathologic findings of the eyes with iris-fixation 10Ls included: iris erosion and atrophy, pigment dispersion. posterior synechiae, mild iritis, mild cyclitis & peripheral anterior synachiae. The histopathologic features observed in the eyes with scleral fixation 10Ls included: mild localized iris erosion and atrophy, erosion into the ciliary body by haptics. pigment dispersion. mild cyclitis, mild iritis. granulometous reaction to 10L, hypertrophy of the muscle layer. dilated blood vessels and scleritis. One of the most important findings in the eyes with 10Ls implantation was atrophy and flattening of the endothelial cell layer of the cornea as compared to the eyes which were subjected to intracapsular lens extraction only. As regarding the deposits on the surface of 20 removed 10Ls. the infrared spectroscopy revealed protein deposits on the surface of the 10L optic and haptics. |
