Abstract This work was designed to evaluate the causes, sources, complications and management of postoperative infec- tion. staphylococci take the upper hand among the organisms causing postoperative infections. Sources of postoperative infection are partially at the operative theatre and partiallY at surgical ward. At operative theatre air contamination from surgical team, spectators and architecture in the theatre can cause infection, at the same time contact with contaminated hands, gloves, instruments and x-ray cassets playa role in wound contamination. At surgical ward air contamination from another septic wounds, beddings and other contaminated surfaces and contact with contaminated hands, gloves and instruments during dressing techniques are the possible sources of infection. Complications of postoperative infection in ortho¬paedics are long-standing complications. Among these complications are chronic septic osteomyelitis,infected non-union of long bones, septic arthitis and infected. |
