Abstract

Investigations of the immunopathogenesis ofGN have established the ” rincipal humoral mechanisms leading to immunologic renal injury with ore attention turning to cellular immune processes. Interleukin-2 is one of e products of the ’l-cells and plays an important role in the induction of the -cell mediated immunity. Considering APSGN as one of the important renal diseases in ediatrics, little has been reported about the behavior ofIL-2 and sIL-2R in e serum in such a disease. As regards the urine level ofIL-2 or sIL-2R, no available data has yet been reported, so this triggered us to study the of IL-2 and sIL-2R in both serum and urine of children with The present study included 20 children with APSGN (13 cases following throat and 7 cases following skin infection), their ages ranged from 2-14 years (6.6 ± 3.7y), they were 12 females and 8 males. Ten healthy children of matched age and sex were taken as control. They were subjected to thorough history taking, clinical examination and laboratory investigations including urine analysis, CBC, ASO, CRP, ESR, C3 and estimation ofIL-2 and its soluble receptors in serum and urine using ELISA technique. In this study, all patients were presented with hematuria (either gross microscopic) and mild to moderate edema. Hypertension was found in 13 cases, 10 cases with moderate hypertension and 3 cases with severe hypertension, of them, one patient had manifestations of hypertensive encephalopathy, the second showed chest infection and severe edema
