Abstract

Hepatorenal syndrome (HRS) is a peculiar type of functional renal failure that occurs in patients with chronic liver disease and advanced hepatic failure with portal hypertension. It is characterized by impaired renal function and marked abnormalities in the arterial circulation and activity of the endogenous vasoactive systems. The aim of present work is to assess the state of calcium, parathyroid hormone (PTH) and ca/citonin (CT) in patients suffering from HRS. This study was conducted on 30 patients which were classified into three groups: • First group: included 10 patients suffering from liver cirrhosis and having normal kidney functions. • Second group: Comprised 10 patients with acute renal failure (ARF) and normal liver function tests. • Third group: included 10 patients with HRS. • And a 10 matched normal subjects as a control group.
