Abstract Acinetobacter is emerging as important nosocomial pathogen in MUHs. In the present study 25 Acinetobacter isolates were identified out of 2379 positive culture results representing 1.05% of the total isolates. Wound specimens , ETA and blood samples were the most common sources of Acinetobacter . Pervious antibiotic use , ICUs admission , mechanical ventilation and urinary catheterization are among the risk factors for Acinetobacter acquisition and imipenem is the most effective antibiotic against it . A. baumannii biotype 0041473 is the most common biotype isolated . According to plasmid analysis , 20% of the strains had no plasmids and five patterns were discriminated .Profile A was the most common . APPCR revealed four different patterns . Pattern I was the most common. |
