Abstract

Two field experiments were performed during two successive summer seasons of 2003 & 2004 at ElSheikh Hamam, ElBousrat village, ElManzala district, Dakahlia Governorate. The main objectives of this experiment were found to be study the effect of four nitrogen fertilizer rates, i.e. 15, 30, 45 and 60 kg N/fed, times of foliar nutrients spraying i.e. 15, 25, 35 and 45 days after transplanting and biological fertilizer sources i.e. without biofertilization, Azospirillum inoculation, blue green algae and combination of Azospirillum + blue green algae on growth, yield attributing characters, grain yield and grain quality traits of rice cultivar Sakha 104. The field experiments were laid out in a stripspelt plot design with four replications The main results could be summarized as follows : 1 Increasing nitrogen fertilizer rates from 15, 30, 45 and 60 kg N/fed. significantly affected growth, yield and yield components as well as quality characters under study in both seasons. 2 In both seasons, times of nutrients foliar application had a significant effect on flag leaf area, plant height, number of tillers/m2, number of panicles/m2, panicle length (in the first season), number of filled grains/panicle, grain weight/panicle, 1000grain weight, biological, straw and grain/fed as well as studied grain quality percentages. Maximum values were produced from House Green foliar spraying after 45 days from transplanting. 3 Regarding biofertilizer treatments, biofertilizer sources significantly affected studied growth characters, yield and its attributes and quality characters in both seasons. 4 The interaction between nitrogen fertilizer rates and times of nutrients foliar spraying significantly affected flag leaf area and number of tillers/m2 in the first season only. 5 The interaction between nitrogen fertilizer rates and biofertilizer treatments had a significant effect on flag leaf area, plant height, number of tillers/m2, panicles number/m2, number of filled grains/panicle, grain panicle weight, 1000grain weight, biological, straw and grain yields/fed and grain protein percentage in both seasons. Maximum values of these characters produced from increasing nitrogen fertilizer up to 60 kg N/fed and using blue green algae as biofertilizer. 6 The interaction between nitrogen fertilizer levels and times of nutrients foliar spraying and biofertilizer sources significantly affected flag leaf area and number of filled grains/panicle in the second season.
