Abstract
Objectives: To verify the following hypothesis: Is a dissociation a phenomena, symptom or both? Prevalence of dissociation phenomena among psychiatric disorder. Relationship between dissociation and epilepsy. Methods: One hundred patients were taken from psychiatric department of Mansoura University Hospital (50 patients) have dissociative disorder categorized as a following: dissociative amnesia (10 patients), Dissociative fugue (10 patients), Depersonalization (10 patients), Dissociative identity disorder (10 patients), others (10 patients) and 50 patients have various psychiatric disorders includes: schizophrenia, mood disorders, OCD, epilepsy, and somatization disorder. Every group consists of 10 patients and 20 persons as healthy control and 3 groups were compared as regard demographic, psychosocial, DES, IQ and EEG. Conclusions: Dissociative symptoms present in about 60% of psychiatric disorder. Epilepsy or EEG changes were present in 52% in various psychiatric disorders, while about 48% in dissociative group. Dissociative phenomena were present in normal as well as in dissociative group and in dissociative disorder but score of it is differ in both groiup.
