Abstract the present study was carried out during tow successive seasons of (2003-2003) and (2003-2004) on Japanese persimmon Costata cv. In elbramon Horticultural Research farm, Dakahlia Governorate, Egypt. It aimedto study the effect of tow levels of pruning ( pinching and removing 10% of shoot length ) at three different dates ( 15th May, 1st June and 15th June) during the tow seasons under the study and study their effect on the number of lateral new shoots which appear after pruning, number of bearing shoots, yield and fruit physical and chemical characteristics. The treatments was applied as follow: 1. Pinching at 15th May. 2. Removing 10% of shoot length at 15th May. 3. Pinching at 1st June. 4. Removing 10% of shoot length at 1st June. 5. Pinching at 15th June. 6. Removing 10% of shoot length at 15th June. 7. Control (without pruning) This study revealed the following results: 1. all pruning severity under different times of pruning gave a higher number of new shoots, number of bearing shoots, number of fruits, higher yield and good fruit characteristics than those left without pruning (control). 2. treatment with removing 10% of shoot length at 15th May was the best treatment as it gave the highest number of lateral new shoots, more shoot length and total number of buds, number of bearing shoots, number of fruits, higher yield per tree and good fruit characteristics than the other treatments under the study or the control (without pruning). The second effective one is pinching at 15th May. |
