Abstract

The aim of this study was the estimation of serum levels of IL-6& CRP as inflammatory markers in different types of ischemic heart diseases, in order to evaluate their relations with disease severity and their correlations with different risk factors. Our results revealed : - Significant increase in total leukocytic count in myocardial infraction, unstable angina, and in stable angina patients groups in comparison to the corresponding healthy control value. - Significant increase in serum total cholesterol, triglyceride and LDL concentrations in myocardial infarction, unstable angina, and stable angina groups in comparison to the healthy control value. On the other hand, serum HDL concentration was significantly lower in all diseased groups compared to the control group. - Serum CK, CK-MB, and LDH mean concentrations were significantly higher in acute myocardial infarction and unstable angina (acute coronary syndrome) as compared to the healthy control levels. - Serum IL-6 level was significantly elevated in patients with acute myocardial infarction, unstable angina, and stable angina as compared with control group. Its concentration was correlated significantly with the severity of ischemic heart disease as shown by the findings that acute myocardial infarction and unstable angina patients had significantly higher levels as compared to the chronic stable angina levels. - Serum levels of hs-CRP were significantly increased in patients with myocardial infarction, unstable angina and stable angina as compared with the normal healthy control group. Acute myocardial infarction & unstable angina patients had significantly higher levels as compared to the stable angina levels. - HS-CRP& IL-6 levels showed significant higher values in hypertensives, smokers & diabetics in all diseased groups compared to normo-tensive, non smokers & nondiabetics. - Serum levels of LL-6 correlated significantly with triglyceride in acute myocardial infarction only. While, Serum levels of hs-CRP correlated significantly with triglyceride in both acute myocardial infarction & in unstable angina. - Serum levels of LL-6 & hs-CRP correlated significantly with CK, CK-MB,LDH & AST in both acute myocardial infarction & in unstable angina.
