Abstract Two field experiments, were conducted at drip irrigation system field, Sakha Agriculture Research Station. Kafr El-sheikh Governorate during 2004 season to study the impact of different irrigation amounts applied via drip irrigation system on yield and water parameters of Cucumber (cucumis satives) and Cowpea (Vigna Ungiculata) as well as to attain the verification of maximizing water use efficiency for these two crops. The results show that values of field evaluation of drip irrigation system refer to a good status. Values of applied irrigation water ranged from 304.9 to 10073.4 m3/ fed. for cucumber and 288.9 to 1008 m3 / fed for cowpea at 0.4 and 1.4 evaporation pan (Ep) respectively. Values of crop-water productivity or so-called water utilization efficiency had the adverse trend with the amount of applied water. Results indicated that vegetative parameters for the two crops along growing season was significant increased with increasing water applied. The highest yield 4025.25 Kg/ fed for cucumber and 343.72 Kg/ fed both obtained for the highest irrigation level of 1.4 Ep. Generally it could be concluded that yield component was significant for cucumber and cowpea crops. Soil salinity increased along lateral away from the dripper, and it reaches the maximum at the end of the wetted area underneath the lateral. The obtained results indicated that under adequacy supply of irrigation water, it could be used irrigate both cucumber and cowpea with to 1.4 Ep which resulted the highest yield. On the contrary, in case of shortage of water 0.8 Ep is recommended to irrigate cucumber which yielded about 80 % from the maximum yield and 1.0 Ep is suitable for watering cowpea which yielded about 72 % from the maximum yield. Implemented of different equations used in this study ( Ibrahim, Hargreaves and ETc equations) depend upon the availability of recorded climatological elements. The suitability of different equation in calculating irrigation water in north Nile Delta region can be arranged as; Ibrahim, ETc and Hargreaves |
