Abstract Delayed formation of the anterior chamber is one of the most important post-operative complications of glaucoma operations This complication attracts interest of the ophthalmologist in the last three decades, especially after observation of peripheral anterior synechiae that develop after prolonged absence of anterior chamber and the dangers that might ,occur if the cases are neglected. It was found that the main causes of delayed formation of anterior chamber are either causes accompanied with soft ocular tension which are; wound leak and excessive filtration, suppression of aqueous production and choroidal separation or causes accompanied with high ocular tension which are malignant glaucoma, pupillary block and failure of the operation. The most frequent causes are leakage, suppression of aqueous production and choroidal detachment. Proper pre-operative, operative and post-operative precautions are very important in decreasing the incidence of delayed re-formation of the anterior chamber. When we are confronted with a case of delayed re-formation of the anterior chamber, we have to examine the patient properly to find out the most probable cause. |
