Abstract
Thalassemia syndromes are characterized by deficient synthesis of globin chains . B- thalassemia is the most common type in mediterranean population. Splenomegiay with or without hypersplenism, a transfuion dependent state and certian bony changes are peculiar features of thalassemia. In egypt, thalessemia constitutes a serious healty problem from both medical and socioeconomic points of view.
