Abstract Platelets release microvesicles known as platelet-derived microparticles Circulating PMP with procoagulant activity may be a potential cause of thrombosis in variant thromboembolic disorders such as angiogenesis in malignancy, uremic patient, systemic lupus erythematosus, cardiac patient, diabetes mellitus, stroke, pulmonary embolism, pregnancy loss, heparin-induced thrombocytopenia, cerebrovascular events and prosthetic heart valves, symptomatic peripheral artery diseases and chronic myeloproliferative syndromes. Platelet microparticles analysis constitutes a new avenue for investigation of pathologies in various diseases. Although still considered investigational, results from several laboratories suggest that MP analysis may be poised to enter the mainstream of clinical testing. |
