Abstract

In the present work 300 cases hospitalized at the Medical Research Institute and General University Hospital were used for the study of post-operative sepsis. These cases were claaaified into two major groups namely: those underwent lower abdominal operations (158) and those operated on for upper abdominal surgery (142) . Each of these two groups included t number of schiatosomal cases which were 40 and 85 respec¬tively. The remaining cases (175) were nonschistosomal.
Nasal and skin swabs as well as urine samples were collected from each case and used for the isolation of present organ-inns. In addition, samples from the hospital wards (operating Tables 8, gloves, aryngeal tubes, air, sink, beddings etc) were used for detection of nosocoraial organisms. The septic wounds developed post-opera lively in some of the cases were also sampled for detection of bacteriological organisms.
