Abstract Klebsiella pneumoniae is a Gram-negative opportunistic bacterial pathogen primarily infecting immunocompromised individuals who are hospitalized and suffer from severe underlying diseases. K. pneumoniae can cause a range of infections, from mild urinary tract infections to severe septicemia and bacterial pneumonia with mortality rates that may exceed 50%. The aim of this study was to detect the frequency of K. pneumoniae causing nosocomial infections in Mansoura University Hospitals with detection of different factors increase the risk of their acquisition. Also detection of strains that produce ESβLase enzyme as amajor cause of treatment failure in hospital infected patients. Moreover detection the presence of some genes which which may responsible for resistnce by carrying genetic character for ESβLase. Besides the detection if the cell wall may be responsible for resistance beside intracellular enzymes. |
