Abstract Several publications were pointed towards the synthesis and serotonergic activity of different aryl piperazine derivatives. These observations promoted the synthesis of certain novel aryl piperazines aiming to attain compounds with potent activity towards 5-HT receptors. In the present investigation, new series of aryl piperazine derivatives were synthesized. The adobted reactions afforded 28 novel final compounds and 3 intermediates that were not mentioned in the available literature. The structures of the newly synthesized compounds were determined by microanalytical analyses and spectroscopic methods. Molecular modeling studies were carried out using Molegro virtual docker© and Field Align© software to prove the expected affinity of the newly synthesized compounds towards different types of serotonin receptors. Further pharmacological screening for serotonergic activity of the novel compounds was done using open field and rotarod tests. The results showed that five compounds possess a reasonable serotonergic activity. |
