Abstract

The physico – chemical properties of an humic acid isolated from an Egyptian alluvial soil at experimental station of the university of Mansoura, have been under taken in order to obtain a well- known humic acid for investigation HA- complexes. The humic acid was extracted from the soil and purified using the method reported by sonbol and Elarquan (1977). The elemental analysis of soil humic acid showed that it contained 51.43 % C, 3055% H, 3.37% N, 0.37% S and 41.28% O. These date indicated that the studied humic acid seemed to be in a more humified and nature state. The results indicated that the content of COOH, phenolic OH and total carbonyl groups in the HA were relativity high and the total and alcoholic OH groups content were low. These date confirmed the elemental analysis results in which the studied HA existed at a higher state of humification.
