Abstract The objective of this study is to survey seed-borne bacterial pathogens of certain cucurbit crops. Isolation, identification of the bacterial pathogens associated with cucumber, watermelon and squash. Possible transmission of these pathogens by seeds and their translocation in the host. Evaluation of physical seed treatments for disease control, and differences in susceptibility of cucumber cultivars for resistance of pseudomonas syringae sub sp. Lachrymans. The results obtained are summarized in the following: 1- The percentage of seedlings showing bacterial infection on the cotyledonary leaves were similar in cucumber and watermelon being greater on squash. The recorded percentages were 4.37 %, 4.13% and 6.91% respectively. 2-Isolation from lesionsdeveloped on the growing seedlings revealed bacterial infections and the total pathogenic isolates were 44.2 and 2 from cucumber, watermelon and squash, respectively. The greater percentage of pathogenic bacteria was recorded from cucmber, beings 57.9%. followed by squash and watermelon. |
