Abstract A comparahensive study was undertaken ta investigate : ( i ) the facto~sa f f e c t ing the adsorpt ion o f some organic aompounds on clay surfaces ( 2 ) the effect of organo-clay complexes on some chemical, physical and biological properties of soils and also t h e i r e f f e c t s on both plant growth and nutrient uptake, For this purpose five s o i l profiles were chosen t of epr esent diff eren-k degrees of f e r t i l i t y at Ka$r~El~Sherkh Governor ate, namely: f e r t i l e , recleimeq, saline, alkaline and vizgin soils. The physical and chemical properties of these s~ilsw ere determined. Organic matter and clay fractions were separated from each s o i l . Organic matter was further fractionated intofulvic and humic acids and the fusctional groups, organic carbon and nitrogen were dete~tqined in both, the two aclds. |
