Abstract In this series, thirty patients with recent tibial shaft fractures were treated by the application of a below-the-knee total contact case (P.T.B. cast). The P.T.B. cast was applied after an initial period of immobilization in an above-th~-knee slab for 2 days.Immediate weight bearing in the P.T.B. cast was allowed.The age of the patients ranged from four to thirteen years, with an average of eight and half years. There were 17 males and 13 females. The right side was affected in 19 patients and the left in’1. The most common type of fracture was ob 1ique (in’ 14 cases),followed by the infraction type (in 10 cases) and then the transverse type (in 6 cases). The level of the . fracture was in the middle third of the tibial shaft in 21 cases, in the lower third in 7 cases and in the upper third in two cases. |
