Abstract Normal fetal growth is a complex process requirs several substrates (oxygen, glucose and amino acids). The availability of this substrates may be limited by any pathological conditions that affect mother placenta and fetuses. The term small for gestational age (SGA) should be applied to all babies with birth weights below 10 th percentile for gestational age without any pathological restriction in their growth. But the term IUGR should applied to fetuses affected by a pathological restriction in their ability to grow whatever the causes. liltrasonography has provided a new and accurate method for early detection of IUGR, such investigation is belived to be entirely without hazards, being painless, non invasive, inexpensive harmless, and has the potential to be used to screen all patients. Umblical artery doppler assessment doesn’t identify all small fetuses, however, it helps to identify IUGR due to vascular complications. This study included 87 multiparous pregnant women who were divided into 4 group. The control group included 24 non lactating women. The other three groups included 1 7, 23 and 23 lactating women respectively. Each lactating group was subdivided into 2 subgroups according to the practice of partial weaning. All women of studied groups were subjected to clinical examination during three trimesters of pregnancy. Ultra sonogrophy and doppler diagnosis was done for all women at 32 weeks gestation. |
