Abstract One of the common causes of the ET malfunction is NS deviation which leads to ME pressure changes and even may lead to secretory OM. This study aimed at measuring tympanometric changes before and after septal surgery in 50 patients (100 ears) with deviated NS. Preoperative tympanometry was done for all the patients, followed by surgical correction of the NS deformity. Postoperative tympanometric follow up was done 2, 4 and 8 weeks postoperatively. Preoperative tympanometry showed that 20 ears had negative pressure changes, while 5 ears had secretory OM. Postoperative tympanometry showed marked improvement in 15 ears, moderate improvement in 3 ears and slight improvement in 2 ears, while ears with secretory OM showed no improvement and they are subjected to myringotomy and insertion of ventilation tubes. The main objective of functional septal surgery is to cure the patient’s subjective sensation of obstruction. |
