Abstract Trauma is one of the major problems facing mankind today. I is the leading cause of mortality and disability during the 1st four decades of life and is the third most common cause of death overall.For each death due to trauma, there are more than ten other persons that are seriously injured, and some of these are permanently disabled.The medico legal procedures in Egypt used the term infirmity and classified it into total and partial permanent infirmities.The permanent infirmity is defined as loss of a functioning organ of the body or impairment of its function.It is important from the medico-legal aspects to study permanent infirmities and factors causing them in an attempt to try to avoid and treat these factors.The study was carried out on 849 traumatized cases. Cases were randomly chosen from the emergency department and admitted to Menoufiya University Hospital whether they arrived directly or referred from other hospitals. Then they examined clinically and their data were recorded in a clinical sheet for each patient .All causes were followed up until the case was stabilized for two successive examinations inn order to illicit the presence or absence of permanent infirmity. The study was carried over 2 years. |
