Abstract Parkinson’s disease is the most common serious movement disorder in the world, affecting about 1% of adults older than 60 years. The aim of the present work is to determine pattern of cognitive impairment in patients with idiopathic Parkinson’s disease and relate these findings to age, duration of illness, L - Dopa medication and type of dominant symptoms .The present study was conducted on 30 patients suffering from idiopathic Parkinson’s disease selected from those attending at Minufiya University Hospital in the neurology department. The patients were 13 males and 17 females with age range from 51-80 years.The control group was assembled as a reference sample, consisting of 20 subjects were selected from employees, workers in Minufiya University Hospital and relatives of the patients. Sex, age and level of education were matched as far as possible with the patient group. Each patient and control subject is subjected to the following: full history taking, complete physical and neurological examination including routine laboratory investigations, Brain Computerized Tomography (C.T.) and neuropsychological tests for assessment of cognitive functions including Mini-mental state examination ( M.M.S.E.) and Stanford binnet 4th edition. |
