Abstract Although drug dependence among industrial workers is one of the most important and serious problems facing industrial population, however, there is limited information about the extent of the problem in different parts of the world. In Egypt, drug dependence is a growing problem. Therefore, the present study was conducted aiming to evaluate the magnitude of drug dependence among a sector of industrial workers in Alexandria, to detect the adverse health and work effects of dependence, to identify the different personal and socioeconomic factors that may be responsible for this problem and in an attempt to select an efficient and accurate psychometric test to be used during preemployement and from the following industrial activities (300 workers from each one): pharmaceutical, metallurgic, petroleum and heavy transport. periodic medical examinations for prediction of suspected dependent workers. |
