Abstract

Cephalosporin C is an important antibiotic, it is one of the p-lactam products of the fungus C. acremonium. Ths antibiotic is prefen-ed because it appears resistance against both acid and penicillinase, therefore, ths antibiotic is very important for the patients who have allergy against penicillin. So, it is used on the large-scale antibiotic industry. Therefore, tls investigation was carried out to search new techniques to increase and improve the production of ths important antibiotic. To acleve ths aim, some classical methods which normally used for the induction of genetic variabilities such as chemical or physical mutagens were applied in ths study. On the other hand, the modem techque for increasing the genetic variability via parasexuality, such as protoplast fusion, was also used in ths work. The chemical mutagen (NTG) was used in different concentrations, 100; 200; 300; 400 and 500 pglml and for different intervals, 0; 20; 40 and 60 min. The physical mutagen (UV-irradiation) was used with 254 nrn wave length for different intervals; 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 min.
