Abstract In the present work, a series of novel cationic and anionic ferrocene surfactants were prepared, where the cationic surfactants include: 1. (Decyl, dodecyl and hexadecyl) ammonium ferrocene sulfonates as primary ammonium salts. 2. N,N- dimethyl (octyl and dodecyl) ammonium ferrocene sulfonates as tertiary ammonium salts. 3. The disubstituted fatty ammonium ferrocene disulfonates of the previously mentioned primary and tertiary fatty amines. 4. (Dodecyl and hexadecyl) trimethylammonium ferrocene sulfonates. On the other hand, the anionic surfactants were prepared by the interaction of N,N-dimethylaminomethyl ferrocene with (decanoic, dodecanoic and tetradecanoic) acids yielding N,N-dimethylaminomethyl ferrocene decanoate, dodecanoate and tetradecanoate, respectively. The chemical structures of the synthesized compounds were confirmed using elemental analyses, FTIR and 1H-NMR spectroscopy. The surface parameters of the prepared compounds were evaluated including surface tension (γ), critical micelle concentration (CMC), effectiveness (ΠCMC), efficiency (Pc20), maximum surface excess (Γmax) and minimum surface area (Amin) at 30, 40 and 50ºC. |
