Abstract

Guillain Barre Cases Characteristics:
A total of 134 cases and 393 matched-controls were analyzed after dropping out subjects that didn’t meet all the criteria of selection. The mean age for cases and controls was 9 SD years, 60% were males in both groups. Approximately 40% of cases and controls were residing in metropolitan governorates. Cases were more frequent (62.7%) in the warm season (April-October) than the cold season (November-March) (37.3%). As an indicator to living in a rural environment, family raising farm animals occurred more frequently in cases (51.9%) than controls (35.5%). Ownership of Five or more luxury items out of the 13 mentioned in the study questionnaire was used as an indirect indicator of a high socio-economic standard (SES) of the study subjects. There was no significant difference between cases (29.1%) and controls (28.5%) regarding high SES.
