Abstract While mainutrition is mainly the result of qualitative or quantitative defects of various elements of the diet, infective diseases are known to be one group of its main predisposing actors and as well, one group of its commonest complications. This thesis is a trial to study the states of immunity in diseases of malnutrition. Humoral and cellular immune functions were studied in 45 mainourished children (4 months - 3 years age). Out of which ten children suffered from infective diseases. Fiftene children matching for age were included as controls. Subjects with mainutrition were divideds into groups of severely mainourished (25) and moderatly mainourished (20) subjects based on anthropometric measurements, overt signs of kwashiorkor or marasmus and the level of albumin. The following tests were done for children in all the groups. I. Biochemical tests: Total protein, albumin, globulin fractions and transferrin. II. Tests related to cellular immunity: * Assay of T - Lymphocytes. * Lymphobiast transformation test. |
