Abstract 231 patients were diagnosed as having MVP in the period between February 1982 and July 1984. This represented 6.67% of” the number uf all Cardiac Cases in the same period in Hamad General Hospital. A group of associated lesion were discovered namely tricuspid valva prolapse (31), aortic valve prolapse (0.4*), secondum ASD (2.6%), VSD (0.4%), aort ic incompetence (i.7% j and asymmetr i ca 1 septal hypertrophy (0.91) . 75 patients were studied in depth, tne group included 50 males and 25 females, and represented 17 nat ionalit ies. Symptoms were; palpitations in (49%), chest pain in (48*), shortness of breath in (25%), dizziness in (12*), syncope in (9.3%), anxiety in (9%), easy fatigubility in ( 5%) , depress ion in (41), headache in (2.7%), and transient ischem ic attacks in (1.3%). 121 of the patients were asymptomatic. A group of skeletal anomalies we re encountered namely; high arched palate (62.7%), long slender fingers (44*), pectus excavatun (25,3%), lax fingers (24*), hyper lax fingers (5.3%), hehns h e eween f i ngers (5.3*), tongue fixej ny long frenjlum (1.3*), Marfan syndrD^e (1.3%) ar.1 Tiy.itonia atrophica (1.3*). |
