Abstract Expert systems provide a powerful and flexible means for obtaining the solution to a variety of problems that often cannot be dealt with by other, more orthodox methods. On the other hand, the t11eOlYof fuzzy logic provides a mathematical framework to capture the uncertainty associated with human cognitive processes, such as thinking and reasoning. • The problem of collision avoidance is considered. The system • • under consideration is a moving ship to avoid collision with another moving object and then steer back to reach a certain destination. The intent of thesis is to use expert and fuzzy approaches to control the direction of a ship with inertia. In addition, we proposed a new fuzzy control algorithm to improve the design procedure and enhance the performance of the controlled system. Simulation results for the motion of the controIIed ship using the proposed fuzzy controller showed that it has a superior performance rather than other controller |
