Abstract

Two field experiments were carried out at a private farm located in Mit Taher village, Minyet El-Naser city, Dakahlia Governorate, Egypt during the two successive summer seasons of 2019 and 2020. The experiments aimed to study the effect of three sowing dates (March 1st, March 15th and April 1st), some foliar substances (trehalose and nitric oxide) and their interactions on vegetative growth, chemical constituents of leaves, setting percentage as well as seed yield and quality of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris, L.) cv. Nebraska of Delta region. The experimental layout was split-plot system in a randomized complete block design with three replicates. The main-plots were used for sowing dates (March1st, March15th, April1st) while foliar application treatments (trehalose 25 and 50 ppm and nitric oxide 30 and 60ppm ) were randomly distributed in the sub-plots. from the foregoing result of this study, it can be concluded that spraying common bean plants with foliar applications of trehalose (at 25 and 50 ppm) and nitric oxide (at 30 and 60 ppm) three times starting 30 days from sowing and repeated 15 days interval significantly improved common bean vegetative growth, chemical constituents, flowering and seed yield and quality under the three different sowing dates as compared to the check treatment (un sprayed plants). However, the best interaction treatment for increasing all above mentioned traits in this concern was sowing of common bean on March 1st and spraying with nitric oxide at 60 ppm and trehalose at 50 ppm under the environmental conditions of Mit Taher village, Minyet El-Naser city, Dakahlia Governorate, Egypt. Further research trails should be carried out for improving common bean tolerance against adverse effect of high temperature stress under local condition.
