Abstract

”Dissertation Title
Effect of Online Antenatal Educational Sessions during COVID- 19 Pandemic on Pandemic- Related Pregnancy Stress
Introduction:
The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the stress that pregnant women are already experiencing. Pandemic-related pregnancy stress is a specific type of pregnancy stress that is related to feeling unprepared for the birth and postpartum period because of pandemic-related restrictions as well as fear of contracting COVID-19. High levels of stress during pregnancy may result in elevated blood pressure and heart problems, or exacerbate any pre-existing chronic diseases, as well as raise the risk of maternal anxiety and postpartum depression. Additionally, it is linked to many obstetric problems, like preterm labor, obstructed labor, and a high caesarean section rate. Pandemic-related pregnancy stress could be reduced by involving pregnant women in online educational sessions and providing information about coping with the COVID-19 pandemic to maintain the well-being of the mother and the developing fetus during pregnancy, labor, delivery, and the postpartum period.
Aim of the study:
The present study aims to investigate the effect of Online Antenatal Educational Sessions during COVID- 19 Pandemic on Pandemic- Related Pregnancy Stress.
Subjects and Method:
The study was conducted at the Antenatal Outpatient Clinics in the New Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, Mansoura, Egypt. The study subjects included 100 pregnant women who were chosen by purposive sample technique. Two tools for data collection were utilized: A Structured Interview Schedule and Pandemic- Related Pregnancy Stress Scale.
The main finding of the study:
The current study results indicate that post-intervention pandemic-related pregnancy stress was statistically highly significantly lower in the intervention group than in the control group.
Recommendations:
Applying an online educational program for pregnant women, which is a new useful tool for providing antenatal health education for Egyptian women from now on, screen every pregnant woman during prenatal care for stress and apply stress management strategies to those pregnant women, especially during critical periods such as pandemic periods.
